Dance in a Day

A fun and easy introduction to social dancing– for total beginners!

Dance in a Day is not your typical dance class—it's a physical and mental transformation!

This beginner-friendly experience will not only help you learn to move, but also discover the joy of dancing — solo and with a partner. No experience required! In fact, the less experience– the better!

Unlock your natural ability to move, groove, and connect with other people on the dance floor.

  • No complex choreography or routines.

  • No tricky footwork and rhythms.

  • No confusing rules.

  • Just music, movement, and lot’s of laughs.

You’ll leave ready to dance at weddings, parties, and clubs and genuinely feel good doing it.

It’s the ultimate foundation that all humans would benefit from, and if you fall in love with dancing, like we believe you will, we’ll also also show you exactly what the next step in your journey will be if you decide to continue in the future.

Can You Really Learn
to Dance in a Day?

Yes. If you focus on the right things.

After years of working with people who’ve never danced before, we’ve discovered a few secrets that have helped thousands unlock their inner dancer in less than 2 hours!

That’s what makes our Dance in a Day experience so unique. It’s not that we’re trying to make you a pro dancer in just two hours. That would be stressful and totally defeat what social dancing is all about— expression, moving, feeling music, connecting with people, laughing, and having fun.

Seriously, Don't Just Take
Our Word For It

We took a Dance In a Day workshop and it was fantastic! We were ACTUALLY dancing at the end of the class. Dax is an outstanding instructor - so patient, great at explaining and demonstrating moves, timing, etc. The philosophy at Dance in a Day is no judgement which was ideal for me as I had major anxiety about taking a class...me and my two left feet. I didn't feel self-conscious at any point, and everyone else in the class was a beginner so no pressure there. You do rotate partners (yikes) but it is very helpful in learning to lead/follow your partner so don't let that scare you. Everyone was friendly and it truly was a group effort to learn the basics.

This is an excellent way to get started with swing dancing and end up looking like you know what you're doing (becuase you do!) at the end. We're going social dancing this week to try out our new skills and will continue taking classes and dancing.

Cannot recommend it enough. Thank you for a fun day that delivered what it promised: you'll dance in a day!

But, But, But…
I Have Two Left Feet

If you’ve got any doubts, fear not. We know that dancing can seem intimidating, so if you thinking things like:

“I’ve never danced before.”

Perfect. We made Dance in a Day is made exactly for you.

“I’m too old / too stiff / too shy.”

You’re not. You just need the right environment and right approach.

“I don’t want to look silly.”

Really? Being silly is one of the most enjoyable parts of dancing. What you might mean is you don’t want to feel embarrassed, but our judgement free zone eliminates this problem.

“I don’t have a partner.”

No problem. We’ll be rotating partners so you don’t actually need one to attend. Moreover, social dancing is one of the best ways to meet new people.

You know what else we hear ALL THE TIME, especially at the end of Dance in a Day…

“This is so much fun, I really wish I started sooner!”

So, stop standing on the sidelines.

You’ve got nothing to lose! (Seriously, 100% money back guaranteed)

What Will I
Learn?

2 simple classes. 1 massive confidence boost!

Class 1: Intro to Dancing (60 min)

Break (30 min)

Grab water, chat with your fellow dancers, ask the teacher’s questions, practice and/or relax.

Class 2: Intro to Swing Dancing (60 min)

Put your new skills and understanding of how dancing works into action. We’ll be focusing on the most fun and creative style of partner dancing called Swing. Expect big smiles, real partner connection, and tons of fun.

Wrap Up: Socialize & Ask Questions (30 min - Optional)

Discover opportunities to learn more about dancing, connect with new friends you made in class, and ask the teachers any remaining questions.

Highlights Include:

  • Two playful learning sessions

  • Breaks in between to keep you comfortable.

  • Simple and effective techniques to help you look natural while dancing

  • Activities designed to unlock confidence and creativity – fast

  • Real connected partner dancing that won’t leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Let’s Talk More About
Social Dancing

Dancing solo can be interesting, but Dance in a Day is more about learning to partner dance with other people. It’s called Social dancing!

It might sound scary—but it’s actually way more fun and less intimidating than standing all alone trying to bust-a-move.

We’ll guide you every step of the way so you always feel supported.

Once we establish some basic solo movement skills, we’re going to pair up and change partners every few minutes. You’ll get to try our fun moves and activities with different people, which means:

  • You’ll make new friends

  • You’ll learn way faster

  • You’ll improve your social skills

  • You’ll experience various creative energy

  • You’ll laugh more

Social Dancing isn’t a performance—it’s a conversation! That’s what makes it so fun and engaging.

In fact, once you can do it, you’ll discover it’s often a less intimidating conversation to start than a verbal one, which is why it’s so easy to meet new people.

Coming as a couple and want to stick together?

No problem. Just let us know when you arrive so we can accommodate you.

Let’s Talk about Leader/Follower Roles?

Partner dancing has two roles: Leader and Follower

The names might suggest one person is in charge— but it’s more like a conversation. Both roles are creative, expressive, and equally important. You’ll see that as soon as you start dancing.

Which role should I sign up for?

It’s more common think of Lead/Follow roles and Male/Female– but any gender can dance either role.

Just remember that when signing up, you’ll need to pick one and stick to that role for the day to keep numbers even.

No matter which role you choose, we’ll help you feel comfortable and confident.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Let's go through some of the most common questions we from people who want to attend.

What style of dancing will I learn?

You are going to start by learning universal dance skills and work on the fundamentals of movement and partnering. This is the stuff that you’ll need to start easily learning specific partner dance styles like Swing, Salsa, Tango, Ballroom, and more. Then we are going to work on Swing Dancing so you can see how the universal skills apply to specific styles.

Who are the teachers?

We have an expert staff of certified Dance in a Day instructors. You can see exactly who is teaching when you buy a ticket and decide which date and location you’d like to attend.

Who created the Dance in a Day program?

This one of a kind experience was created by Dax Hock and Sarah Breck— two of the world's most renowned Swing Dance teachers and performers. The program was crafted and refined over 4 years running the Dance in a Day program in Los Angeles, CA at their dance studio called the Lindy Loft.

What type of clothes should I wear?

Focus on being comfortable and casual and expect to sweat a little bit. Something nicer than the gym, that expresses your personal style. If you sweat a lot, we recommend bringing a second shirt just in case.

What type of shoes should I bring?

The most important thing is to pick a show that you can twist or turn in without too much friction against the floor. Leather soles would be ideal, but they should also feel comfortable to move in for two hours. Closed toe would be best for starting.

Do I need to bring a partner?

No, you can come alone and since we are rotating partners you should have plenty of chances to dance. However, we highly recommend bringing a partner/friend and even a second couple to help us keep numbers even. That’s why it’s the same price to come as one or two, or four people.

What if I’ve never danced before?

That’s actually perfect. This event is designed specifically for people who are brand new to dancing.

What if I’ve tried dancing before? Will this be too easy?

No. Because most of what you’ll learn is conceptual, you’ll get to apply the skills at your own level. This is also what makes this experience easy for non-dancers, too. It’s designed to work within your comfort zone.

What if I’m nervous or shy?

Welcome to the club! Almost everyone else is too. That’s why we created this unique experience— it’s kind, supportive, and fun from start to finish. You are allowed to be as shy or outgoing as you desire. Either way, it’s a super comfortable space for both personalities.

Will I feel out of place?

Absolutely not. Everyone here is trying something new together. That’s a major part of what makes it feel safe, and that safety leads to a ton of creative exploration and fun.

What kind of music will we dance to?

Fun, feel-good music that makes you want to move. Think wedding parties, soul, and upbeat classics, pop, and of course our favorite— swingin’ jazz. Especially for the second hour, we will use mostly playful Swing & Jazz which is the best music for social dancing.

Do we switch partners?

Yes, we rotate partners—but only if you’re open to it. It helps you learn faster, makes it social, and prevents you from getting bored easily.

Can I stick with my partner and not rotate?

If you really insist, yes, you can request to stay together. Whenever we rotate, you will just stay as a couple and the rotation will move past you without making you feel awkward. Just let us know before class starts so we can accommodate you.

Is this a gendered event?

Not at all. Just choose your role—Lead or Follow—regardless of gender. You remember, you have to stick to that role for the whole experience. Switching roles while learning can cause confusion when starting out. If you really want to try the other role, you can repeat Dance in a Day at a later date doing the other role.

What happens after I buy a ticket?

First, you’ll get a confirmation email and details about what to bring and how to prepare. You’ll get clear directions to the location so you can arrive without stress or getting lost. You’ll also need to organize the names and contact details for your partner or friend group.

Did the Dance in a Day workshop, and it was truly amazing. Dax is both a gentleman and true professional swing dance instructor who brings a tremendous amount of value, friendliness, patience, knowledge, and experience to his class. Love his approach to no judgment dancing (which in turn made everyone a braver dancer) and his Rie method dancing rules. Dax kept repeating the basic rules and steps of swing with different examples (shoveling and teapot dipping moves) which really helped with learning the swing body movement. I highly recommend this weekend workshop swing class. It's a must do if you're a beginner. Don't second guess going, Their workshop class is Well worth your time, energy, and money.

I booked the "Dance in a Day" class for me and my fiancee and we had a blast. Dax and Sarah are both amazing teachers and they create a relaxed environment to learn. They teach the building blocks for swing, rather than teaching a specific routine, so by the end I felt like we learned a ton and could really have some fun combining all the things they taught us. This is a great intro to swing and a fun way to spend an afternoon!
